Finding Peace in the Chaos
Finding Peace in the Chaos
Life can feel a lot like a chaotic storm. I wonder if that resonates with you. 'The chaos of life'. What does that phrase bring to the surface? Maybe its feeling out of control in the day to day, maybe its having a messy and disordered home, maybe the family juggle and trying to do everything right, is just too overwhelming right now. This chaos is stirring up the waters around us and all we want is peace!
In Matthew 8:23–27, we read the story of Jesus and His disciples caught in a sudden and fierce storm. The wind howled, the waves crashed, and the disciples—many of whom were experienced fishermen—were terrified. And yet, in the middle of the chaos, Jesus was asleep in the boat. I think he was modelling to them (and us!) that we can be secure enough to rest, when we focus more on the presence than the storms around us.
As soon as the disciples came to him and cried out for his help - Jesus got up and calmed the storm by rebuking it out loud. We too can cry out to Jesus for his help and receive this calm. Not necessarily with the actual circumstance changing in that moment, but with a sense of PEACE and CALM, in our heart, mind and body. We can become more aware of His presence, than the stormy chaos around us. This is a gift, and its one you can receive today.
The chaos and the storms are real. But Jesus is in the boat all along- modelling how to rest and there to bring peace and calm when we ask Him. His presence is stronger than our fear.
Psalm 29:11 gives us this promise:
“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.”
That peace isn’t something we have to create for ourselves—it’s a gift from God. When life feels overwhelming, we can pray as the disciples did: “Lord, help me.”
And just as He spoke peace to the storm, He can speak peace into our hearts, minds and bodies today.
A Prayer for Peace in the Chaos
Lord Jesus,
thank You that You are always with me,
even when life feels overwhelming and noisy.
You are the One who can bring peace to every storm.
Please calm my heart,
give me strength for today,
and help me to trust that You are in control.
Fill me with Your peace that goes beyond understanding.
Amen.
